More Power To You-Motivation and Goal Setting: Overcoming Obstacle
“Reflective Practitioner”
Motivation and Goal Setting is a great tool that one would need in an online class. This helps students to “plan their time wisely and set reasonable goals.” At times one may have other “conflicting priorities” that may hinder a person’s motivation. Some of those “conflicting priorities” can be financial burdens and/or family obligations. When one choses to make a commitment of taking an online class, on have to make sacrifices financially, as well as, physically and emotionally from their family. One way of dealing with these different obstacles is to write troubling matters down in a type of journal. This way, instead of keeping all of the troubling matters inside, one can have a way to release all of the built up tension inside of him or herself.
This is extremely important online students because it allows some structure to a self-paced class. If one is able to “plan their time wisely, set realistic goals, and overcome obstacles” then one can reap the benefits of an online classroom. It is also important for one to set realistic goals as well. For example, if a student learns that he or she has a ten page paper that is due the following day, then it is not realistic for him or her to set a goal of having it completed by 8 o’clock in the morning. Even though this might seem as if the person might be extremely self-motivated and setting goal, but in the long run, it is simple going to be more stressful and depressing. In short, it is not realistic.
