More Power to You- Communicating Online: Who, What, When, How, and Why

More Power to You- Communicating Online: Who, What, When, How, and Why

“Reflective Practitioner”
When one is in an online class, it is communication is completely different.  When a person is in a regular, face-to-face classroom, the instructor has the convenience of looking at a student’s facial expression and hearing the tone of the student’s voice.  However online instructors do not have that liberty.  There are certain online rules or etiquette that are involved when communication online.
Communication clearly while one is in an online class is key to learning and building relationships with one’s instructor.  It is imperative not to give off the wrong vibe when communication with an instructor so that he or she will not take it the wrong way.  However,  this also goes both ways.  The instructor can always give of negative vibes to his or her students as well.  Therefore, proper “netiquette” is key.  Also, today students are accustomed to Social Networking sites and texting.  The way one communicates via texting and within social networks are not appropriate when it comes to communication with an instructor.  When one communicates with an instructor via email or a specific Learning Management System, he or she should realize that it is a formal setting; therefore, formal communication language should take place rather than informal.
