15. Identify biomes based on environmental factors and native organisms.

Content Objective(s): The Teacher Will:
1. To describe and compare the characteristics of the major land    biomes.
2. To identify the areas that are not classified as major    biomes.
3. To identify the major categories of freshwater biomes
4. To describe the importance of estuaries
5. To describe and compare the distinct ocean zones that make-up         marine ecosystems
Essential Question(s): Students will be to answer the following:
1. What abiotic factors and biotic factors characterize    biomes?
2. What areas are not easily classified into major biomes?
     3. Why are estuaries so important?
4. What are the major categories of freshwater biomes?
5. How do ecologists usually classify marine ecosystems?
Procedure/Activities
Purpose: To Activate Prior Knowledge
Strategy: Bell Ringer
Procedure
1. Bell Ringer/Daily Opener: (AHSGE: Item Specification)
Which biome has mostly shallow-rooted, low-growing plants that can reproduce by budding and division rather than by flowering?
a. taiga
b. tundra
c. grassland
d. rainforest
2. Reconnect- Students will reconnect with the class about what was done on the previous day. Teacher will facilitate this activity.
3. Project Based Perfomance (Biome Brochure)- Students are to    research their Biomes based on project. See attachments
4. Homework: Work on Biome Project and Read Section Chapter Five Section 1 and 2.

5. Exit Slips: Using complete sentences, write down two facts that you know about the Biome that you selected.
